What we do at The Film Actors Studio

Discover your Path to Authentic Performance

At The Film Actors Studio, I believe that truly powerful performances begin with breaking down the barriers that hold actors back. My unique approach is a Frankenstein monster of techniques from many schools that help you access your authentic emotional core. I work on giving you practical tools that you can use to approach any form of text, but first, we have to deal with you the actor. (with radical gentleness)

Relaxation Foundation Finding Your Center Through Meditation

Every class begins with meditation and relaxation techniques. This isn't just a warm-up – it's the cornerstone of my approach. Relaxation is key. We do everything better when we are relaxed. I've discovered that actors (especially myself :) cannot access their true emotional depth or creative potential until they learn to truly relax. Which is a paradoxical nightmare when you work place is on a stage in front of hundreds, or a chaotic set. You can work on a script till the proverbial cows come home but if you're not relaxed on the day, you won't be able to access any of that beautiful work you have prepared.

Through guided meditation practices, you'll learn to:

● Release physical tension that blocks emotional expression

● Quiet the mental chatter that interferes with being present

● Develop a stronger connection with your emotional core

● Create a reliable pre-performance centring routine

Breaking Through Blocks with Instrumental Work

Drawing from Eric Morris's revolutionary technique, I focus intensively on identifying and releasing instrumental blocks – those physical and emotional barriers that prevent authentic expression. If we don't validate what emotions are truly happening within us, when we come to work we will act above them, or not be able to access them at all.

This transformative work helps you:

● Identify your personal patterns of tension and resistance

● Release muscular holdings that limit your range

● Understand the connection between physical and emotional blocks

● Develop tools and pathways for accessing genuine emotional states

The Alexander Technique: Freedom in Movement

I incorporate the Alexander Technique to help you discover natural, efficient movement patterns. This powerful method teaches you to:

● Release unnecessary physical tension

● Find optimal posture without forcing

● Move with greater ease and presence

● Prevent performance-related injuries

● Enhance your vocal production through better body use

Practical Scene Work: Putting It All Together

With these foundational elements in place, I dive into scene work where you can apply these principles in practice. My scene work includes:

● Partner exercises that build genuine connection

● Monologue development for authentic self-expression

● Text analysis through the lens of a variety of schools of teaching

The Eric Morris Method: My Core Approach

My program is deeply rooted in Eric Morris's transformative technique, which emphasises:

● Being absolutely present in the moment

● Working from a place of emotional truth

● Understanding and overcoming your personal blocks

● Developing reliable access to authentic emotional states

● Creating characters from the inside out

We work in a vast variety of ways, creating a comprehensive approach to acting that goes far beyond simple technique. I want you as the actor to grab whatever tools work for you, and curate your own "actors toolbelt". I don't just teach people how to act – I try to gently remove the obstacles that prevent you from expressing your true creative potential & nurture a healthy creative expression. If this sounds like your cup of creative tea, drop me a line, let's go for a coffee and see if we are the right fit. xx
