How to Rock Up onto Set or Stage

To put it simply, you gotta rock up.... and just be available. Sounds simple, right? But here's the thing - it's actually really fucking hard. Some people make it look so easy, but for most of us? It's a journey.
When I say "available," what am I talking about? I mean being there - truly there. Relaxed. Emotionally open. Ready to play. Prepared but not rigid.
So what gets you there?
Here's the beautiful mess of it all - you've got to find your own way. Sure, I can throw techniques at you all day long. Some might stick, some might bounce right off. That's the thing about this creative journey - it's yours. Take what works, leave what doesn't.
Remember this: Film is just colour and sound. That's it. But what we're doing here? We're exploring your expression. Your truth.
I'm not asking for some fake version of you. I'm asking for YOU. Just you. No more, no less. All your emotional colours. The dizzying heights to the turbulent lows. The whole damn rainbow.
So here's what I want you to do - before your next gig, take a moment. Breathe. Feel where you're at. Do what makes you feel more you, go for a surf, go for a run, go to a gallery, have a cup of coffee stare at the ocean. whatever it is that gets your into the best version of yourself.

Because that's the secret sauce, friends. That availability we talked about? It's not about being perfect. Its not about even being prepared enough. It's about being present. It's about showing up with your heart cracked open, your imagination on fire, and your bullshit detector turned way up high.
Maybe your way in is through music. Maybe it's meditation. Maybe it's making the love (hey, whatever works). The point is, find what gets you there - to that place where you're not performing, you're just being. Its in this space where the magic happens, when you don't even know whats going to happen in the scene, each take is vastly different and influenced by every impulse that pops up.
And remember, every single one of us - from the newbie to the veteran - we're all figuring this out as we go. The only real failure is not showing up fully.
Now get out there and be gloriously, imperfectly, magnificently available.
Catch you on set. xx
